LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (10/16/09) - The start to a season-long
five game road trip began in triumph for the Mean Green soccer team as they
took down the UALR Trojans 2-1 Friday evening at Burns Park.
The win over UALR swayed the all-time series in favor of
the Mean Green 10-1. North Texas (10-4-1, 6-0-1) has now won six of their last
seven contests and remains atop the Sun Belt Conference.
The Mean Green struck first on Friday in the ninth minute
when senior midfielder Kendall Juett scored her third goal of the season off a
rebound assist from sophomore defender Julie Lackey. For Juett the goal was the
29th of her career on a night where she tied current assistant coach
and Mean Green great Dani Slavonic for most games played and started (90) in a
career.
After taking the 1-0 lead into halftime, the Mean Green
came out of the locker room and wasted no time in getting a bigger cushion. In
the 48th minute the Juett-Lackey connection converted again when
Juett delivered her 28th career assist to Lackey right in front of
the net and the sophomore defender scored her first goal of the season.
The Trojans (5-9-1, 2-4-1) would score their lone goal in
the 86th minute on a shot from 10 yards out by Christina Veasley for
her seventh goal of the year.
North Texas outshot the Trojans 16-11 and 7-6 shots on
goal. Junior goalkeeper Mandy Hall stopped five shots for her 10th
win of the season. The Mean Green also improved their impeccable record of when
they score first to 10-0.
North Texas will next travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas to
take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves Sunday at 1 p.m. The Mean Green is a
perfect 12-0 lifetime against Arkansas State.
