Cazaubon And Ortiz Capture Big Win In Break

DENTON, Texas  - It was an active and successful winter break for the No. 36 North Texas men's golf team as Carlos Ortiz and Rodolfo Cazaubon won the 2013 Copa de las Americas men's tournament  playing for Mexico at the Doral Golf Club and Resort.

Ortiz and Cazaubon playing together on Team Mexico, knocked off Team Canada and Team USA, which included the No. 1 ranked amateur player in the world, Chris Williams of Washington, and Steven Fox, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion.  

Ortiz and Cazaubon powered Team Mexico to an under-par score, the only team in the field of 11 teams to post a score under-par. A biennial team event, the Copa de las Americas is an amateur team competition for countries in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

In addition, Jason Roets and Curtis Donahoe played in the Dixie Ameatur Dec. 18-21. Roets finished tied for eighth place while Donahoe finished in 11th place. Roets had an opening round of 67 while Donahoe shot a third-round of 66.  

The No. 36 North Texas men's golf team begins play in the spring season Feb. 11-12 at the Oak Hills Invitational.
