Mean Green Tied For Fourth After Day One

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Facing a star-studded field that features four top-25 teams in the nation, the No. 40 North Texas men's golf team is only four strokes off the lead after the opening round of play at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational.  

Playing at the famed TPC Sawgrass course, North Texas shot a 10-over par round and is tied with No. 23 LSU, but in front of No. 8 Arkansas, No. 13 North Florida, and No. 27 UAB after the first round of play.

No. 17 UCF has the clubhouse lead at 6-over par, four shots ahead of the Mean Green.  Junior Rodolfo Cazaubon had one of his best rounds of play of the early season with a 1-under par score of 71. 

Cazaubon is tied for sixth place after 18 holes and a nearly flawless round. Cazaubon was 3-under par after the first nine holes, capped off by an eagle on the 18th hole and sits four shots off the lead.

Curtis Donahoe is tied for 24th place after an opening round of 3-over par 75. He started the round with two straight birdies and had three for the round.

Carlos Ortiz and Ty Spinella were at 4-over par 76 and are tied for 30th place while Jason Roets shot an opening round of 78.

North Texas is one stroke ahead of Arkansas, two ahead of No. 42 TCU, and six in front of No. 49 Tulsa. The field of 15 teams features nine teams ranked in the top-50 in the nation.
