DENTON, Texas (5/9/11) - North Texas senior first baseman Mallory Cantler was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Second Team for the third straight year, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Cantler, a graduate student, is the first Mean Green softball student-athlete to receive the award three consecutive years. Cantler earned her bachelor’s degree in three years and is currently working on her MBA. She has been named to the Dean’s List and President’s List at North Texas and the Academic Honor Roll and Sun Belt Commissioner’s List.
The Jarrell, Texas native is one of the most accomplished players to ever wear a North Texas softball uniform. She holds many of the career records at North Texas, including batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, fielding percentage, career doubles and multiple-hit games. She is second in career hits and RBI and third in home runs. She is the only North Texas player to earn first-team all-conference honors for three straight years. She holds the single-season records for batting average, hits, doubles and on-base percentages.
To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.3 cumulative grade point average. District VI represents student-athletes in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
