Norman, Okla. (5/5/11) - The No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners softball team defeated North Texas, 9-1, on Thursday night at the OU Softball Complex.

Mariza Martinez hit a home run, but the Sooner offense was too strong for the Mean Green, scoring nine runs in five innings.

Keilani Ricketts picked up her 23rd win of the season, pitching three scoreless innings. She held the Mean Green hitless, allowing just one base runner off a walk.

Brittany Simmons fell to 10-15 this season with the loss. She pitched 1.2 innings and allowed four earned runs off six hits.

Ricketts gave No. 15 OU an early lead with a three-run homer in the first inning. The Sooners added to their lead in the second, scoring four runs off two doubles. OU was aided by two Mean Green errors.

Martinez led off the fourth inning with a solo home run, her eighth of the season. The home run was also the 36th of her career, which is second on the career record list. Only Susan Waters has hit more home runs in a North Texas career.

OU sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the fourth off three singles and a walk. The two runs allowed the Sooners to end the game on a five-inning run-rule.

The Sooners outhit the Mean Green, 9-2. Anna Barren singled in the fifth inning but was left stranded on base.

North Texas ends the 2011 regular season with a 22-30 record.
