Austin, Texas (4/14/11) - Rachel Fox pitched a one-hitter to lead the No. 3 Texas Longhorns to an 8-0 victory against North Texas on Thursday night at McCombs Field.
The Longhorns improve to 35-4, while the Mean Green falls to 17-24. Texas leads the series, 8-1.
Courtney Bradshaw broke up Fox's no-hitter with a pinch-hit single with two outs in the fifth inning. Fox did not allow a single base runner to reach base before Bradshaw's single to left field.
Texas scored runs in each of the first five innings to take a run-rule victory against the Mean Green. Brejae Washington went 3-for-3 in the game for the Longhorns with two RBI.
The Longhorns took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off two hits, two stolen bases and a Mean Green error. With two outs in the second, Texas added four runs on two extra-base hits. The Longhorns added solo runs in the third and fourth innings.
Ashley Kirk (7-13) took the loss for the Mean Green. She pitched 1.2 innings and gave up five earned runs off five hits. Jackie Miller made her collegiate pitching debut, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out one batter. Brittany Simmons finished up the game, allowing one run off two hits in one inning of work.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when it faces ULM at home at 2 p.m. in doubleheader action.
