DENTON, Texas (4/13/11) -- Jennifer Beardsley has signed to play softball at the University of North Texas for the 2011-12 season, announced head coach T.J. Hubbard on Wednesday.
"We are excited to add another DFW-local talent to our 2011 signing class," said Hubbard. "Jennifer brings depth and versatility to our outfield and her speed will add to our offense. We look for her to do great things both in the field and at the plate for us during her time here."
A Flower Mound, Texas native, Beardsley posted a .444 batting average during the 2010 playoffs when Marcus High School advanced to the 6-5A regional quarterfinals. She was a two-time all-district team honorable mention in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, her high school team was 6-5A District champions and regional finalists.
Beardsley plays travel ball with the Dallas Tigers. The outfielder stole 46 consecutive bases over two seasons before being thrown out.
Beardsley joins five other student-athletes who signed during the early signing period. For the 2010-11 school year, the signing class includes the following players: Meredith Baker (C, McKinney HS/McKinney, TX); Jennifer Beardsley (OF, Marcus HS/Flower Mound, TX); Elizabeth Coe (IF, Brazoswood HS/Lake Jackson, TX); Danielle Hoff (IB/OF, Garland HS/Garland, TX); Madison Thompson (P, Charles Page HS/Sand Springs, OK) and Haley Wagner (OF, McKinney North HS/Carrolton, TX).
