DENTON, Texas (2/22/13) - North Texas track & field will try to bring home hardware from its last Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships this weekend as it heads to Jonesboro, Ark. to compete Sunday and Monday at the Convocation Center.
Senior Jo Adams and junior Shahaf Bareni will lead the women's side.
Adams, who holds the school record in the mile and 3,000 meter-meter run, will add the 800-meter run to her repertoire for the championships while Bareni will compete in the high jump in hopes of jumping a personal best.
Joining Adams and Bareni will be newcomer Christina Taylor and senior Ashley Harrison. Taylor, who is the current SBC Female Track "Athlete of the Week", leads the SBC in the 800-meter and stands in fourth in the mile. Harrison leads the SBC in the 400-meter dash by more than .50 seconds.
Juniors Clint Collins and Matt Russ lead the men's side for the Mean Green. Collins, who holds the school record for the 400-meter dash, currently sits in first in the SBC in the event. Collins will also run the 200-meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.
Matt Russ, who broke the school record 800-meter run at the Iowa State Classic, is set to run the 800-meter run, mile, 3,000-meter and the 5,000-meter run.
Distance newcomers Troy Taylor and Silvester Harrison will each run the mile, the 3,000-meter run and the 5,000-meter run. James Coleman will also run the mile and 5,000-meter run and run a leg of the distance medley relay.
Competition from the Convocation Center will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's long jump, women's high jump, women's shot put and men's pole vault on Sunday, Feb. 24.
