WACO, Texas - Mean Green track & field junior Steven White won his fifth straight race on Saturday at the Michael Johnson Dr. Pepper Classic from the campus of Baylor University.
White, who sits fourth in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles, took home victory in 50.55 seconds which is good enough for his third best time of the season.
The women's high jump was another bright spot for North Texas as the Mean Green women registered three top-five finishes in the event.
Sophomore Shahaf Bareni nabbed the first place finish when she was the only athlete to clear the bar at 1.75m. Haley Thompson tied for second with a final height of 1.70 meters and Chelsea Hermes matched that height and finished in fifth. The 1.70m clear represents a new personal best for Hermes.
Kendria Burton was another member of the Mean Green to register an event title when she took home first in the 400-meter hurdles as well. Her time of 1:02.24 is a season best for North Texas
Freshman Chastity Stewart also improved upon her season best mark when she crossed the line of the 100-meter hurdles on 13.85 seconds.
North Texas track & field will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, when it travels to the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas.
