DENTON,
Texas (2/21/13) - Three North Texas track & field athletes were named Sun
Belt "Athlete of the Week" in their respective categories for the week of February 20.
Junior
Charleston Lewis was named Male Field "Athlete of the Week" after he broke his
weight throw school record for the second time this season at the Sooner
Invitational last Saturday. Lewis threw 17.68 meters to best his old record by
more than .40 meters on his way to capturing a fourth-place finish in the
event.
Junior
Shahaf won her finished first in the women's high jump for the fourth time this
season. Shahaf hopped an impressive 1.75 meters to become the Female Field "Athlete
of the Week."
Newcomer
Christina Taylor took home the top spot in the women's 800-meter run in a time
of 2:14.64 at the Sooner Invite. Taylor's converted time of 2:14.10 is the best
in the SBC and helped her become Female Track "Athlete of the Week."
North
Texas track & field makes their last appearance at the Sun Belt Conference
Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25 in Jonesboro, Ark.
