MONTREAL, Canada- Although the 2011-12 season has ended for the Mean Green, the competition continues for freshman swimmer Krista Rossum. With one full season under her belt, Rossum will be the first North Texas swimmer to compete in the Canadian Olympic time trials.

The freshman is fighting for a spot on the Canadian Olympic swim team in the 200-meter IM, 100-meter Breast, and 200-meter Breast. This season she broke the school record in the 200-yard IM three times (2:00.65), 100-yard Breast four times (1:01.46), and the 200-yard Breast five times (2:14.54). She helped set a combined 21 school records during her freshman year campaign (400-yard IM, 200-yard Free Relay, 400-yard Free Relay, 800-yard Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay).

Rossum will compete on Thursday in the 100-meter Breast, Friday in the 200-meter IM, and finish Saturday in the 200-meter Breast.

Before coming to North Texas, Rossum won second-place and set the Manitoban record with a 1:10.60 in the 100-meter Breast at the 2011 Canadian Junior Nationals, putting her as the fourth-fastest swimmer (Swimming.ca) for her age group. She also ranked third nationally in the 200-meter Breast at 2:33.98 after a third-place finish.

Live results or webcast can be used to follow Krista Rossum as she races for a spot in the 2012 Olympics in London.
