MIAMI, Florida- In a double-dual meet, the Mean Green defeated FIU (113.5-109.5) and marginally fell to Alabama (121.5-115.5). Without its diving team, North Texas out-swam the Crimson Tide by 26 points. The diving team wrapped up the Incarnate Word Invitational yesterday in San Antonio, Texas. At the Invite, sophomore Rebecca Taylor snapped the program scores in the 3-meter dive and platform dive, and qualified for the NCAA Zones Diving Championship in the 3-meter dive.

Senior Hiliary Riedmann won the 1000 free in 10:26.17. Following close behind, freshman swimmers Jessica Rodriguez finished in third (10:45.07) and Holly Moon in fourth (10:47.20).

“I’m very proud of how the girls raced today,” commented Dykstra. “The team is very exhausted from a heavy training load, but stepped up and raced hard.”

Junior Catia Weickgenant won the 200 free in 1:53.12.

Senior Rosa Gentile placed second in the 50 free (54.94) and seized first in the 100 fly (57.14). Junior Bryn Lewis quickly followed in second place (58.05).

Swimming and diving will take a break for the remainder of 2011. The team returns to the pool Saturday, January 14, against UALR at 10:00 a.m. in the Pohl Recreation Center.
