DENTON, Texas - North Texas seized control of the Sun Belt Conference with a 3-2 victory over the previously undefeated in conference Middle Tennessee. The victory pushes the Mean Green to 13-3-2 and 8-0-1 in conference.

North Texas scored three consecutive goals in the first half from Michelle Young, Amber Haggerty and Karla Pineda.

Young's goal was the 10th of the season and 40th of her career. Pineda's header off and Allison Guderian assist in the 29th minute had the Mean Green rolling up 3-0.

Middle Tennessee countered in the 32nd minute with a Regina Thomas goal followed by a 37th minute Kate Loye goal to cut the lead to 3-2.

The score would remain unchanged through a physical second half of play. The box score is attached up top.

"The game was just a classic battle between two outstanding teams with great tradition," head coach John Hedland said. "The fans were definitely treated to an exciting game."

The win puts coach Hedlund's record for Sun Belt Conference home games at 55-4-2, a record that is now set in stone as the one remaining game on North Texas' conference schedule is on the road.

The Mean Green travels to Bowling Green, Ky., on Sunday for an afternoon match up with Western Kentucky. A win on Sunday will clinch North Texas its second consecutive Sun Belt Conference championship.
