"We are very excited to add these five student-athletes to our team," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "We believe these student-athletes will be able to immediately contribute to our program both on and off the field. I am very excited for the future of North Texas soccer"
Leah Cox is a midfielder/defender from Colleyville, Texas, who played for Sting West '93 and Liberty Christian High School. She was named to first team all-state for TAPPS 4A in 2008 & 2009. Liberty Christian won the 2009 TAPPS 4A State Championship in 2009 as she was named district offensive MVP. Cox was named to the All-State Tournament team in 2008, and received Newcomer of the Year honors in her district.
"Leah is a left sided player that will be a consistent offensive threat to the opposing teams defense," said Hedlund. "She has speed, good size and a wicked left-footed shot that will really give our offense a boost next fall. Leah will be a great addition as a attacking left outside midfielder for us the next four years."
Haley Dockray is a midfielder from Fort Worth, Texas, who played for Sting West '93 and Oak Hill Academy. She was a three year team captain for Oak Hill in the Home School Athletic Association, and was MVP for the Home School National Tournament championship team. She played for the North Texas ODP and participated in the Region III ODP camp in 2006.
"Haley is an offensive midfielder that reads the game very well and has the vision, composure and touch on the ball to set up all the offensive players around her," added Hedlund. "We're excited to have Haley here and know she will blossom in the system we play at North Texas and have a great career."
Jackie Kerestine is a goalkeeper from Euless, Texas, who played for Sting West '93 and Colleyville Heritage High School. As a junior in the 2010 season, she was named to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Super Team in 2010, and District 5-5A Goalkeeper of the Year. With Kerestine in net, Colleyville Heritage won the District 5-5A championship in 2009 and the Bi-District championship in 2010. Kerestine is also the Colleyville Heritage school record holder and regional qualifier in the shot put.
"Being 6'1 and very athletic, Jackie has all the tools to be a outstanding Division 1 goalkeeper," said Hedlund. "Her ability to cover the goal, read and anticipate the play in front of her and cover crossed balls with her size gives her an opportunity to compete for playing time right from the start."
Kelsey Petty is a forward from Alvarado, Texas, who played for D'Feeters '93 and Alvarado High School. She is a four year letterwinner and three year captain at Alvarado High School. Petty has been named to the all-country first team in her first three years in high school, and has been named Alvarado offensive MVP in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
"Kelsey has tremendous speed and the ability to break through any defense and create havoc on opposing teams," said Hedlund. "We look for Kelsey to come in right away and play that right outside mid- forward position. Her work rate, athletic ability and competiveness will allow her to be a impact player here at North Texas for many years."
Alyson Stallcup is a midfielder from Keller, Texas, who played for Sting Blue '93 and Keller High School. As a sophomore, Stallcup was named an All-District 5-5A selection in 2009.
"At 5'10 and solid in the air, Alyson is a great addition for us at the defensive midfield spot," said Hedlund "She is a very unselfish player that keeps the possession game going in the midfield with her passing game, reading the play, winning balls in the air and being at the right place at the right time. Alyson should contribute right away at North Texas."
