North Texas' leading scorer Denetra Kellum again led the Mean Green in scoring with 18 points, following up a 25 point outing in North Texas' last game against Florida Atlantic 14 days ago. The layoff was the longest break the team has taken in season since 2002-03.
Jasmine Godbolt reached double-figures in scoring for the fifth straight game and the eighth time in the past nine games. Godbolt added five rebounds to her ten points accumulated on 4-of-8 shooting.
Laura McCoy gave North Texas a 37-36 lead into the halftime break by hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer. North Texas started the game with a 7-0 run, but South Alabama was able to close the gap as the first half featured three ties and four lead changes.
North Texas hit seven three pointers, the most the team has hit at home this season.
North Texas falls to 5-20 on the season and 2-10 in Sun Belt play. South Alabama improves to 15-10 and 7-6 in league play.
