Game Notes

DENTON, Texas - North Texas and SMU renew their longstanding rivalry Thursday night as the Mean Green travel to Moody Coliseum to face the Mustangs at 7 p.m. The two teams will face off for the 43rd time on Thursday. North Texas is coming off a season-opening loss to Texas State on Monday night while SMU is off to a 2-0 start to the season.

The series is the longest in school history and represents the most games against a single opponent in North Texas school history. The Mean Green ended a four-game SMU winning streak in the series with a 50-46 last season in Denton. However North Texas hasn't won in Dallas since 1989.

True freshman Alexis Hyder burst onto the collegiate scene against Texas State with a double-double off the bench. She scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of play. She is the first true freshman to notch a double-double playing in her first game since Marlo Hartman did 25 years ago. Hartman had 16 points and 12 rebounds in her first collegiate game to start the 1987-88 season, and Hyder is the first freshman to match that.

North Texas scored 83 points in the season opener against Texas State, the most points in 59 games. The Mean Green had not scored more than 80 points in a game since putting up 87 against Oral Roberts on November 14, 2011. The 83 points were the most in a season opening game since scoring 86 to start the season against Indiana State in 2003.

The Mean Green got more than half of its point production against Texas State from its bench, which scored 49 of the 83 points. The 49 points scored by the Mean Green bench is the most in a single game since 2000. On December 8, 2000 the North Texas bench pumped in 54 points, but the 49 points against Texas State were the most since that night.
