North Texas Invitational Game Notes Most North Texas fans probably think the Super Pit is the only place to watch the Mean Green play above the rim, but head coach Ken Murczek and the Mean Green volleyball team are changing that. As North Texas enters the 2012 season on Friday - at home in the North Texas Invitational - it does so with a renewed emphasis on building an athletically gifted squad. The vertical jump is one of the biggest tests that coaches use to guage volleyball athletecism. This week, four members of the team touched over 10 feet in vertical jump tests, and seven posted vertical leaps of over 25-inches. Freshman Carnae Dillard, the program's first PrepVolleyball.com All-American, led the way with a 34.5-inch vertical, which puts the 5-foot-8-inch outside hitter nearly three feet above the net. Courtney Windham, a 6-foot-3-inch outside hitter, had the tallest touch at 10-feet 5-inches. Dillard, Windham and North Texas will open the 2012 season on Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Prairie View A&M at the Mean Green Volleyball Center. NT will also host UMKC on Friday at 7 p.m., Houston Baptist on Saturday at noon, and Lamar on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. |
