DENTON, Texas – Shelley Morton and Eboni Godfrey both posted monster matches for the North Texas volleyball team, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Louisiana-Lafayette in a five-set loss on Sunday afternoon (26-28, 25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 15-11).
Morton, a senior, racked up 16 kills and 15 digs, and Godfrey wasn’t far behind with 16 kills and 11 digs. They led a Mean Green team that out-hit Louisiana-Lafayette 66-63 in kills.
North Texas (12-13, 3-6 Sun Belt West) landed 15 kills on .208 hitting in the fourth frame to force a fifth and deciding set, but couldn’t hold off a Ragin’ Cajuns (10-14, 2-6 Sun Belt West) squad that hit .238 on the afternoon.
The Mean Green led 3-1 early in the fifth and deciding set, but the Cajuns used a late 5-1 run to seal the match. Lavinia Tataran paced ULL with 18 kills and 13 digs, while Mandi Gavin led the match with 22 digs.
The match was NT’s second straight five-setter, and drops its record in five-set matches to 3-2.
North Texas returns to action next weekend at South Alabama and troy.
