LAS CRUCES, N.M. - North Texas junior Taylor Kilponen shot a two-under-par final round at the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate tournament Wednesday afternoon and finished tied for seventh place.
Kilponen, who was playing as an individual and entered the day tied for 20th place, had five birdies on the back nine of the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, including four straight beginning on the par-4 14th. Her Wednesday score of 70 tied for the second lowest round of the tournament, and her three-round total of 219 was three over par for the 54-hole event.
Teammate Chaslyn Chrismer finished the tournament tied for 21st at eight-over-par 224, and the Mean Green's Ralston McKenzie, who came into the round tied for 11th, slipped back on Wednesday and tied for 24th at 225. Keegan Moore finished tied for 49th with a score of 231, Georgina Mundy was 72nd at 245, and Brooke Bailey was 76th at 245.
As a team, North Texas wound up in 13th place with a total score of 922. Kansas won the event with a 54-hole score of 871, seven over par, followed by Washington State, the No. 32 team in the nation, ten strokes back in second place. Host New Mexico State finished in 11th place. Kansas's Yupaporn Kawinpakorn won the individual competition with a three-under-par 213.
North Texas will next be in action October 21-23 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nevada.
