The North Texas football program has begun taking
applications for 2012 potential walk-ons. Applications must be picked up
in person in the Athletics Center weight room, located on the first floor of
the Mean Green Athletics Center at 1301 South Bonnie Brae. Applications
will be accepted until Thursday Jan. 31. Late applications
will not be accepted.
All potential walk-ons who apply by Jan. 31
will be given an information packet describing the process. The actual
walk-on tryout will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. at the
Mean Green Athletics Center, under the supervision of the football strength and
conditioning staff.
North Texas has a long history of developing a successful
walk-on program. Former linebacker Chris Hurd joined the Mean Green as a
walk-on and finished his career being named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive
Player of the Year. Wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald became North Texas' all-time
leading receiver in 2008 after joining the team as a walk-on. In 2010,
walk-on wide receiver Ivan Delgado earned his way into the starting lineup and
finished the season as the fourth-leading receiver.
