Prospective Student-Athlete Information - Softball

We are excited about your interest in the University of North Texas and Mean Green softball. Head coach TJ Hubbard picked up his 60^th career win in 2010, becoming the winningest softball coach at North Texas. He finished the season with a win-loss record of 82-81 after three years as head coach. In each of his three years at the helm, Hubbard has led the Mean Green to greater success and 2010 was an example of that. North Texas recorded many firsts in 2010: its first winning season, the most wins in school history, posting a school-record 52 home runs. The Mean Green also picked up big wins against nationally-ranked opponents: No. 15 Texas and No. 24 Baylor. North Texas went 3-3 against Big XII opponents in 2010.

Quick Hits On North Texas
A member of the Sun Belt Conference, North Texas has captured 14 conference championships since 2001. Individually, 69 Mean Green student-athletes were named All-Sun Belt Conference during the 2009-10 school year. This past season, the Mean Green won two conference championships and finished in the top three at conference championships in eight sports. Many of the teams posted their best seasons in program history.

In 2009-10, four Mean Green sports saw postseason play. The men's basketball team won the Sun Belt Conference tournament title and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament. The women's tennis also won a conference championship, its first Sun Belt title in school history. Two Mean Green golfers, freshmen Rodolfo Cazaubon and Carlos Ortiz, were selected to play in the NCAA Men's Golf Regional in Bremerton, Wash., in May, making North Texas the only team in the nation with two true freshmen individual players participating in an NCAA Regional. Fifteen track& field athletes qualified for the NCAA Championship Preliminary Rounds in 12 different events in May, and four moved on in two events to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., in June.

The Softball Coaching Staff
Please note that, per NCAA rules, coaches can only respond via e-mail to juniors (after September 1) and seniors in high school. Coaches must mail responses to freshmen and sophomores, per NCAA rules. You can call any North Texas coach, but they cannot return your phone call unless you are a senior in high school.

Facilities
North Texas played in a brand-new facility in 2006, Lovelace Stadium. Located next to the Mean Green Soccer Complex, Lovelace Stadium provides the Mean Green with an inviting competition venue. The team also has new indoor facilility, coaching offices and a locker room.

Academic Athletic Services
In the Fall of 2005, the academic and compliance staff relocated to the Mean Green Village. Located on Bonnie Brae, the new Student-Athlete Development Center is three times the size of the former academic center. The Center serves as the cornerstone of the Mean Green Village and is only a short walk from the surrounding sports facilities.
