Phillips Makes NT's First Trip To NCAA Meet |

INDIANAPOLIS - Sophomore Kimmy Phillips of the Mean Green swimming and diving team will be the first swimmer in North Texas history to compete in the NCAA Division I Championships, which begin March 21 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The event will be co-hosted by the Indiana Sports Corporation and IUPUI. Phillips enters nationals after breaking the Sun Belt record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:13.58. The record, previously held by NT assistant coach Michele Lowry from her time at Denver, will never be broken due to this being the final year of swimming in the Sun Belt. She also qualified as an optional entry in the 500 freestyle with a B cut time of 4:46.23. The Argyle High School product swam the 25th fastest 1650 time in the nation in order to gain an invitation to the prestigious event. The 500 free will occur on the opening day, Thursday, March 21, while the 1650 free will take place on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m. Saturday's finals will be aired on ESPN3.
