ROCKWALL, Texas - North Texas swimming & diving swam well in the opening night at the annual Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championships setting school records in both the 200 medley and 800 free relays. The Mean Green relay team, consisting of sophomore Mona Groteguth, sophomore Krista Rossum, senior Bryn Lewis and senior Becca Ploetz, placed second in the 200-yard medley. The 1:40.85 time was a school record. The relay team of senior Catia Weickgenant, sophomore Kimmy Phillips, senior Becca Ploetz and freshman Jana Burkard came in second in the 800 free, and in doing so, set both a school record and a conference record with a final time of 7:14.57. Weickgenant's first leg in the 800 free was also a record. "This was a great night for us," head coach Joe Dykstra said. "We broke three school records out of three opportunities and had lifetime-best splits across the board." The Mean Green sit in third place heading into day two of the championships with 68 total points, only four behind leader Western Kentucky. "We are exactly where I projected us to be points wise after tonight, and I am really excited for the individual events to start tomorrow," coach Dykstra said. You can find North Texas at the Rockwall Aquatic Center for preliminary play on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. |
