Game Notes
DENTON, Texas – The North Texas volleyball team still
controls its own destiny in the chase for its third Sun Belt West Division
title since 2006, and it begins with a Friday night matchup against Arkansas
State at 7 p.m.
ASU is coming off a 3-0 loss at Missouri on Tuesday, but
presents the SBC’s No. 2 ranked offense at 13.95 kills per set. Jasmine Terry ranks
fifth in the SBC with 3.41 kills per set.
Should the Mean Green beat Arkansas State on Friday,
Sunday’s match with UALR would decide the division and the No. 2 seed in the
SBC Tournament. That match starts Sunday at 1 p.m.
UALR leads the West by a single match and is led by Edina
Begic, who ranks second in the nation with 5.11 kills per set. UALR hits .229
as a team, which is 79th in the NCAA.
The Trojans knocked off NT in five sets back in Sept., so an
NT win in four sets or less would give NT the title. Should NT win a five
setter, the tiebreaker would go to the team with the highest for/against ratio
of points scored in the head-to-head matchups.
Friday night’s match against Arkansas State will be the
100th in head coach Ken Murczek’s career. In his third season at NT, Murczek
owns the top win percentage in school history and was the program’s fastest
coach to reach 50 wins. A victory in match 100 would help NT take one step
closer to an SBC West Division title.
