DENTON, Texas (8/27/12) -- The second edition of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I poll in the South Region was announced Monday, and North Texas received the ninth-best position in the voting.

"It's always nice to be recognized alongside some of the very best teams in the country," said head coach John Hedlund. "The goal for me is that we continue to grow as a team and get better each week and if that happens, everything else will take care of itself."

In a field stacked with SEC teams, North Texas received more votes than Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas and South Carolina.

Missouri is ranked as the top team in the region, followed by Florida and Tennessee. Texas A&M and Mississippi round out the top-five teams, while LSU, Auburn and Georgia finished just above North Texas at the sixth, seventh and eighth spots.

With games against Baylor, Long Beach State, Oklahoma State and TCU remaining in non-conference play, North Texas could make a significant jump in the poll before Sun Belt Conference play begins on Fri., Sept. 21, against Louisiana-Lafayette.

North Texas returns to action on Fri., August 31, at home against Texas Southern.
