DENTON, Texas – Say cheese! The Mean Green volleyball team officially kicked off fall camp on Wednesday with team pictures, followed by a rousing first practice session that helped head coach Ken Murczek assess where his team stands on day 1. His thoughts? “To be honest, I thought they were fantastic,” Murczek said. “We have a lot of work to do over the next month to be ready for our first matches, but I really liked the intensity and athleticism everyone brought to the court today.” The Mean Green features seven newcomers, but the season can hardly be considered a rebuilding campaign. Among the newcomers are Carnae Dillard, the program’s first PrepVolleyball.com High School All-American, and Karissa Flack, the program’s first AVCA JUCO All-American. South Carolina transfer Hanna Forst is expected to make an impact both on the court and in the locker room. VIDEO: Click here to meet the newest members of the Mean Green volleyball family. Eboni Godfrey, the first North Texas freshman to earn All-Sun Belt honors since 2000, returns for her sophomore season, and 6-3 outside hitter Courtney Windham will be among the key returners. North Texas posted a 17-17 record in 2011, giving the squad its first back-to-back .500 seasons since the founding of the program in 1976-77. NT opens the year hosting the North Texas Invitational on Aug. 24 & 25. Be sure and follow the Mean Green volleyball team on Facebook and Twitter for updates and info about the team this fall. |
