DENTON, Texas - Nine Mean Green track & field events are set for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at the Mike A. Myers Track Stadium in Austin, Texas this weekend.
Junior Steven White leads North Texas as the highest ranked athlete in the event, entering the 400-meter hurdles with both the sixth best time in the region and in the NCAA. White's best time of 50.07 seconds was also good enough for an Olympic Trials "B" cut mark.
White will also compete as a member of the men's 4x100-meter relay team.
Shahaf Barnei trails White by only three slots as she comes into the weekend at No. 9 in the West in the women's high-jump. The sophomore jumped to that spot after taking first and setting a new Sun Belt Championship and school record with a clear of 1.81 meters.
Also making their way to Austin will be senior sensation Sara Dietz and Jo Adams. The duo will each run in the 1,500-meter run.
Aaron Sirles is the only thrower that qualified for the NCAA First Round and he will compete in the discus throw.
Another sophomore, Clinton Collins will be running the 400-meter dash as well as joining White and CJ Fowler (200 meter dash) as three members of the relay team that qualified individually. Johnny Hickman will be the fourth member of the team.
Chastity Stewart rounds out the North Texas athletes participating this weekend, as she qualified for the 100-meter hurdles.
The NCAA West Preliminary Rounds begin Thursday on the campus of the University of Texas and run through Saturday evening. Live results can be found through www.texassports.com
