DENTON, Texas (5/14/12) - North Texas sophomore pitcher Ashley
Kirk was named to the 2012 Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team, released Saturday
by the league office.
The Mean Green finished its 2012 campaign with a 28-26-1 record and a 2-2 mark in
the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. North Texas picked up wins against FIU and
Florida Atlantic to finish third in the conference tournament. Top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette
ended the Mean Green's season with a 5-1 decision on Friday night.
Kirk went 2-1 in the tournament, making appearances in all four games of the
conference championship. The sophomore picked up the wins against No. 8 FAU and
No. 2 FIU. She recorded a three-hit shutout in the 3-0 win against the Owls and
then combined with Brittany Simmons to shutout the Panthers, 8-0.
She recorded a 1.24 ERA in the four appearances. She
pitched 17 innings, gave up three earned runs and struck out 11 batters.
Kirk finished her sophomore season with a 2.39 ERA and a 13-12 mark. The earned
run average and win total are both personal bests. She broke her own
single-season strikeout record in 2012 with 163 strikeouts. The 13 wins are
tied for the third-most victories in a single-season at North Texas.
