DENTON, Texas - The No. 54 North Texas tennis team is set for its match with No. 17 Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament's First Round on Friday morning at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
The Mean Green (18-6) advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons by winning the Sun Belt Conference Championship over FIU, 4-2.
North Texas has started matches on the right foot recently, capturing the first point of the match nine straight times by virtue of the doubles point. No. 1 tandem of senior Nadia Lee and Barbora Vykydalova were the first NT duo to receive All-Sun Belt Conference honors by assembling a 10-2 overall record.
Nebraska (23-4) enters play having lost to No. 30 Purdue in the first round of the Big 10 tournament after winning eight of their previous nine matches.
The Cornhuskers enter Friday's match with three nationally ranked singles players and a top-50 doubles team. Senior Mary Weatherholt leads the way for NU singles as the 47th-rated singles player in the nation, followed by juniors Patricia Veresova (100) and Janine Weinrich (108).
Two separate athletes, Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein, join forces and register as the No. 45 doubles tandem in the nation.
