DENTON, Texas -The No. 59 North Texas tennis team was awarded to No. 1 overall seed for the first time in program history in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The tournament will take place April 19-22 at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton.
North Texas will kick-off its quest for the Sun Belt Championship on Friday at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of No. 8 Arkansas State (11-8, 1-5) vs. No. 9 Florida Atlantic (9-8, 0-3) which will take place Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
The Mean Green (15-6, 6-0) enter the tournament having won 13 of its last sixteen matches, including three ranked wins and all six conference victories.
Denver (11-10, 3-1) (No. 2), Middle Tennessee (14-6, 6-2) (No. 3) and FIU (5-14, 2-1) (No. 4) also received first round byes as the occupants of the remainder of the top four seeds.
Tournament play begins Thursday at 8 a.m. with the women's first round action. Men's first round action is set for 3 p.m. Thursday.
