No. 66 - John Love Eclipses The 1,000 Yard Receiving Barrier
North Texas Hall of Fame receiver John Love became the first wide out to record over 100 yards receiving in a single season in 1966.
Love's 68 catches for 1,130 yards and 10 scores remains tied for the second most receiving yards amassed in a single season in North Texas football history.
His largest outburst came in the final game of the year, when Love hauled in 12 receptions for 220 yards and three scores in a 42-7 rout of UT-Chattanooga.
North Texas would finish with an 8-2 record that year and claim the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
Love finished his short two year career with 2,124 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns, both 6th in school history. He is tied for first in NT football history with 11-100 yard games and sits tied for fifth in career receptions with 144.
His 1,000 yard season paved the way for Barry Moore to accomplish the feat twice in 1968 and 1969. To this date, North Texas has had six 1,000 yard seasons and only four 1,000 yard receivers.
