DENTON, Texas (2/3/10) - The North Texas
women's soccer team announced the signing of five players to National Letters
of Intent Wednesday afternoon. The Mean Green is coming off a season in which
they went 12-7-2 and advanced to the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Conference
Tournament.
All five signees have extensive experience
playing for prominent club teams in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as North Texas
head coach John Hedlund will try to fill the void left by graduating seniors
Kendall Juett, Kelli Lunsford and Lauren Shockey.
"It's never easy replacing the talented
seniors we just lost but I do feel we have a very strong group of girls coming
in that will contribute right away and continue the great success we've had on
the field as well as the classroom," North Texas head coach John Hedlund said.
Loreli Ramsey, Midfield/Forward, 5'10", Allen, TX (Allen High
School)
Ranked the 16th best prospect in the Texas Regional Top
20 according to TopDrawerSoccer.com ... Ramsey was twice named a first-team
all-district performer while playing for one of the top high school soccer
programs in the nation. She was part of an Allen HS team that became district
champions in 2007-2008 and was ranked the number one team in the country during
that span. She played for the Sting '92 club team for eight seasons and her
squad was a US Southern Regional Semi-Finalist and Red Bull National League
Finalist in 2009. That same club team was a North Texas State Cup Champion
2005-07. Ramsey had a GPA of 4.1 and was a member of the National Honor
Society.
Kelsey Hodges, Defender/Midfield, 5'7", Denton, TX (John Guyer
High School)
Hodges had a prestigious career at John Guyer HS where she was a
three-time first-team all-district performer. She was the team's leading scorer
in 2009 and 2008 and set the freshman record for goals and points scored in
2007, leading to her Newcomer of the Year selection that same season. In high
school Hodges also played varsity basketball and ran track where she set the
school record in the long jump. She played club ball for 'Sting 92 from 2005-09
and the Dallas Texans 'Red 92 from 2002-05. Hodges had a GPA of 3.86 and was a
member of the National Honor Society.
Allison Guderian,
Forward/Midfield, 5'4", Coppell, TX (Coppell High School)
Guderian
helped lead Coppell to a state championship her junior season ... She was a varsity starter for three seasons at Coppell HS and was named first-team
all-district in 2008 and 2007. She also ran track and was a regional qualifier
in 2008 and 2007 and was named the Newcomer of the Year in 2007. Guderian
played seven years of select with Inter 92 Blue/FC Texas 92 and FC Dallas 92
from 2002-07. She also played with Solar 92 for three seasons. Guderian had a
GPA of 4.38.
Jordan
Howell, Midfield, 5'7", Lewisville, TX (Lewisville High School)
Howell
was a four-year varsity starter and was twice named second-team all-district in
2006-07 at Lewisville HS. She played seven years of club soccer, including the
Solar '92 squad from 2006-09. Howell had a GPA of 4.66 and was a member of the
National Honor Society and was a member of the Lewisville HS Student Council.
Shelly Holt, Defender, 5'4", Richland Hills, TX (Birdville High School)
Holt played varsity soccer for four years at Birdville High School where
she was a first-team all-district selection and named to the all-region team. She
also played basketball, volleyball and track where she set the school-record in
the pole vault. She played club soccer from 2002-09 for Polaris '92 and played
with the Mustangs '92 from 2002-04. Her team was a North Texas State Cup
Semifinalist in 2008 and a North Texas State Cup Finalist in 2007 and 2005.
Holt had a GPA of 3.5 and was a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
