North Texas is still in search of its first win of the season and its first road win under head coach Todd Dodge. Western Kentucky enters the game struggling as well having dropped four straight games. The Hilltoppers need to win out to avoid their first losing season since 1995.
The game against the Mean Green closes out a three-game homestand for Western Kentucky after opening the year with five of its first six games on the road.
Its a brief but competitive series between the Mean Green and Hilltoppers. North Texas won the only meeting between the two schools last season 27-26 at Fouts Field. Jamario Thomas closed out his fabulous career at home with 147 yards on the ground and three TD’s in the game. North Texas rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to pick up the win.
Despite having played only 31 career games and been a starter for just 19, senior wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald has already set the career record for receptions when he surpassed Johnny Quinn’s mark of 187 in the Troy game. Fitzgerald now has 194 catches to his name, which broke Quinn’s record that he set from 2002-2006.
Fitzgerald set the record in 31 games, while Quinn’s previous mark came over a span of 46 games. Fitzgerald also ranks fifth in career receiving yards with 2,225 and his 18 career touchdowns ranks fifth in North Texas history. Fitzgerald has caught at least one pass in every game in which he has been a starter – which stands at 19 straight heading into this week.
Mean Green Radio Network coverage of the game begins at 2:30 p.m.
