DENTON, Texas (3/8/13) - No. 54 North Texas will play host for a pair of matches against future conference mate No. 22 Tulsa on Saturday, March 9, and Wichita State on Sunday, March 10, at the Waranch Tennis Compex.
"First half of the season has been a process of discovering who we are and what we have as a team," head coach Sujay Lama said. "We are a blue collared team that thrives on hard work, togetherness and loving to battle for each other. We have built a nice base and now it is about improving so we can peak in April and May."
The Mean Green (7-3, 2-0) is coming off a 4-3 victory over Miami of Ohio last weekend in Georgia.
The Golden Hurricanes (9-4, 1-0), who is coming off a 7-0 sweep of South Alabama, will face SMU on Friday before making the trip to Denton. Tulsa will be the sixth ranked opponent for North Texas this season.
"Coach Orford has done a phenomenal job at Tulsa and made it a perennial top 25 team year in and year out," coach Lama added. "We are very excited to play them at home. It will be a great challenge for us but it also presents a tremendous opportunity."
The Shockers (5-7, 1-0) defeated UT-Arlington, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon and will face No. 19 TCU on Saturday before meeting with North Texas on Sunday.
"Wichita State got us last year in a close one," Lama said in reference to the Shockers 4-3 victory last season. "They always compete hard. We expect another tough match with them."
