DENTON, Texas (2/15/13) - North Texas track & field
athletes senior Chelsea Hermes and junior Clint Collins were named Sun Belt
Conference Track & Field "Athlete of the Week" for their respective
performances at the Iowa State Classic this past Saturday.
Hermes captured second-place
with 3638 points in her first pentathlon of the 2013 indoor season at the Iowa
State Classic. Hermes finished first among collegiate competitors on her way to
taking charge of the event in the SBC.
"I was already so excited about the conference
meet coming up after the last meet in Iowa, but being named "Athlete of the Week"
made it even better," Hermes said after hearing the news. "I'm happy to be able
to represent the women's side in the Sun Belt. It's those kind of things that
really motivate me for the conference meet."
Collins brought
home a first-place finish for North Texas in the men's seeded 400-meter dash.
Collins broke his own school record of 47.17 with a time of 46.50. Collins now
holds first-place in the Sun Belt in the event. Collins also anchored the men's
4x400 meter relay that took home fifth.
North Texas track & field makes their last appearance
before the SBC Indoor Championships this weekend at the Oklahoma Invitational
