SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The UIW Invitiational's second day came to an end tonight after more record-breaking showings from the North Texas swimming and diving crew. After two days of play, North Texas leads the five teams in overall score with a mark of 1284.5. TCU is second with 1231, and Rice is third with 1134.5.

Based on the morning's preliminary play, the races were divided into A, B and C pools for the night's final round of swimming as well as some diving action.

Stats for today's action can be found by clicking the link at the top of the article.

NT diving's own Rebecca Taylor, a junior, took the gold in the three meter dive with a score of 267.80. Sophomore Bobbi Bliss and senior Delia Covo also placed in the top eight. Bliss posted a 221.45 mark while Covo scored 216.45.

The Mean Green also exceled in the pool. The 200 yard medley relay team consisting of sophomore Mona Groteguth, sophomore Krista Rossum, senior Bryn Lewis and senior Becca Ploetz came in first edging out Rice's top unit with a time of 1:41.71, good for a school record.

In the women's 400 yard IM B final, senior Joanna Wozniak took the cake with a time of 4:27.14, a four-second improvement over her preliminary time. Sophomore Kenzie Calkins also swam well in the event and came in fourth after notching a time of 4:31.61. Also of note, during the morning's preliminaries, Rossum set a school record in the event with a time of 4:19.05. She did not participate in the final round (coach's decision).

The 100 yard buttefly was another strong point for North Texas. Groteguth (55.87), Lewis (56.03) and freshman Bianca Bocsa (56.33) rounded out the top six in the A final.

Senior Catia Weickgenant won the 200 yard freestyle's A final with a time of 1:48.14, a school record, beating Rice's Erin Flanigan by over a second. Freshman Jana Burkard came in fifth with a time of 1:50.31.

Rossum nabbed herself another first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke A final with a mark of 1:01.66, a time that is within NCAA consideration cuts. Junior Sarida Muslow placed fifth in the same event with a time of 1:04.68.

Groteguth shined in the 100 yard backstroke after posting a 55.01 time, a school record. This was good for first place in the event's A final and also met the NCAA consideration time. Bocsa notched a time of 57.84 in the same event while freshman Mackenzie Childs placed second in the 100 yard backstroke B final with a time of 58.80.

In the final women's event, the 800 yard freestyle relay, the NT "A" team of Rossum, Burkard, Phillips and Weickgenant grabbed the silver medal by less than nine tenths of a second with a time of 7:19.87.

The North Texas swimming and diving team completes its three day meet in San Antonio tomorrow throughout the day at the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College. The results can be followed live by clicking the link attached at the top of the release.
