DENTON, Texas – In what can only be described as one of the finest seasons in school history, the North Texas volleyball team tied the school record for wins at 26, advanced to the Sun Belt Tournament finals for the first time and claimed its second SBC West Division title in three years. The Mean Green (26-12) had a pair of players, Carnae Dillard and Courtney Windham, earn first-team all-conference selection for the first time in NT history, and the duo also earned All-Sun Belt Tournament honors – also a program first. Dillard, an All-America candidate, is the only Division I player with over 550 kills, 275 digs and 90 blocks. She posted 552 kills in 2012, which are the most by any freshman in the nation and ranks sixth overall. The Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year averaged 6.45 kills per set in leading North Texas to its first ever Sun Belt final. Her 552 kills this year are the fourth-most by a North Texas player, and the most ever by an NT freshman. Libero Shelby Tamura had a terrific season with 642 digs in 2012, which are second only in NT history to Jessica Hulsebosch for the school-record of 675 digs in 2006. Windham and Karissa Flack finished the season ranked third and sixth in school history in total blocks with 170 and 125, respectively. North Texas will add the services of Amy Henard, one of the top setters in the state, to their roster in 2013. Henard, who is well on her way to a third straight Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State selection, led Brock to its first state title and a 45-3 mark. She was named the UIL 2A State Tournament MVP for her efforts. On the club side, Henard led TAV-17 Black to an 82-3 record and the national title game runner-up finish at the USA Volleyball Junior National Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. |
