DENTON, Texas (11/21/12) - North Texas athletes are getting into the
spirit of the holiday season by giving back to the Denton community. The
athletes donated over 700 pounds of food to the Denton Community Food Center on
Tuesday afternoon.
Led by members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee,
the athletes have been collecting non-perishable foods since the beginning of
November. Drop-off locations were set up by the North Texas SAAC members so
athletes could donate food to those in need.
"The student athletes at North Texas really came together to help
out the Denton community," says student-athlete affairs coordinator Michele
Lowry. "The athletes and the athletic department understand the
importance of family and community and with the amount of support that we have
from Denton, we felt this was a great opportunity to give back and show how
much we appreciate their dedication to our institution."
The student athletes are also participating in the
Salvation's Army Kettle Drive again this season and will be ringing bells
throughout Denton over the next few weeks.
