MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The North Texas volleyball team took Maryland-Eastern Shore to the brink, but couldn’t land the last punch in a five-set loss (25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-13) to the defending MEAC champions.
Courtney Windham was a force for the Mean Green (10-5) with 19 kills on .500 hitting, and her final fifth-set kill brought NT back to within a point at 14-13. That’s when Maline Vaitai from UMES (11-1) ended the match with a kill, capping off a near-unstoppable .529 fifth-set attack percentage for the Hawks.
After dropping the first set, 25-21, the Mean Green came out with a vengeance in the second and third frames. NT hit .355 in the second set and .314 in the third, and posted a sideout percentage of over 65 percent in both sets.
