DENTON, Texas - The North Texas men's golf team is ranked No. 29 in the nation by Golfweek.com in its preseason top-30 countdown. North Texas captured the Sun Belt Conference title last season, it's first conference crown since 2003, and returns six of its top seven players heading into the 2012-13 season.

The Mean Green last season finished ranked No. 31 in the nation, loses only Sun Belt Conference medalist Ty Spinella. North Texas returns three-time all-conference players Carlos Ortiz and Rodolfo Cazaubon. Both players enter their senior seasons as only the fifth and sixth golfers in school history to be three-time all-conference players in their first three seasons.

North Texas has only one player in school history who was a four-time all-conference selection, Alan Magill from 1994-97.

Ortiz won the 2011 Sun Belt Conference title qualified for the U.S. Amateur this season, advancing out of stroke play and into the match play portion of the championship.  Ortiz and Cazaubon lead a group of four returning seniors on the roster for North Texas.

North Texas has advanced to the NCAA regionals in each of the past two seasons, the first time that has happened since 1974-75. The Mean Green is in search of advancing to the NCAA Finals for the first time in the modern era this season.

North Texas tees off the fall season on September 9-10 at the Gopher Invitational.
