DENTON, Texas – North Texas assistant volleyball coach Sarah Rumely and head coach Ken Murczek were selected to lead North Texas Region High Performance teams at the US Championships in July.
The most talented players of the region trained with Murczek and Rumely for four days in Plano, Texas prior to heading to the national tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. Murczek headed the Select team (13-14 years old) while Rumely coached the Youth age group (15-16).
“It was an awesome experience to get North Texas involved with some of the most talented players in the country,” Murczek said. “All of the players were great to work with, and I really loved the intensity they brought throughout the entire program.”
Rumely’s Youth team finished seventh out of 18 teams, and went on to win the Silver Division championship. The Murczek-led Select Team had a great showing early, but settled for eighth place overall out of the Silver Division.
“It was an amazing opportunity to work with some of the great up and coming youngsters in the North Texas region,” Rumely said. “I couldn’t have enjoyed my time with the North Texas High Performance Team any more.”
Rumely, Murczek and the Mean Green open the 2012 campaign at home with the North Texas Invitational. NT will face Prairie View A&M and UMKC on Aug. 24, followed by Houston Baptist and Lamar on Aug. 25.
