Robinson begins his first season as an assistant coach for North Texas softball after spending the previous year with UT-Arlington.

Robinson returns to the Mean Green after serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2008-09 season. He moved on locally to work two seasons at UT-Dallas as an assistant coach and then spent this past year at UT-Arlington.

“We welcome back Rone to our staff after several years,” said Hubbard. “He was a big part of our success in 2009 and returns to help us reach that same level again. Rone will assist with the hitters and will be in charge of developing the infielders as well as coordinating the majority of our recruiting efforts.”

As the hitting coach at UTD, Robinson helped the Comets bat .318 in 2010 and .308 in 2011. He also led the team to sharp spikes in home runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage as UTD broke nine offensive categories. At UTA, Robinson served as the Mavericks hitting coach and worked with the infield and outfielders.

“I'm excited to help coach at such an established program that is coming off another great year and has great things going for it,” said Robinson. “The Mean Green’s history of softball success and the opportunity to work with T.J. Hubbard was a motivating factor for me to come here, and I have no doubt that through the hard work of this current coaching staff and our student-athletes, we can continue the success and take this program to the next level.”

Robinson was a two-year letterwinner for the Louisiana-Lafayette baseball team as a shortstop and centerfielder from 1993-94. He was a two-sport star, also lettering with the football team from 1989-93. He served as captain during his senior season in 1993, helping lead his team to a co-conference championship. The wide receiver was named second-team all-conference in the Big West. He earned his degree from ULL in applied science in 1995.

He continued his baseball career with the Carson Crawdads, a semi-professional team in Los Angeles, Calif. He also served as an assistant coach with the team, where he oversaw and ran infield and outfield practices and recruiting functions. Robinson was voted Newcomer of the Year and named to two All-Star games.

Robinson is married to his wife, Kimberly, who is a native of The Colony, Texas. The two have two sons, Devin and Roman.
