Michele Lowry will begin her third year as the assistant swimming coach at North Texas in 2012-13.

Lowry took part in the demolition of the North Texas record books that had 18 of the 22 event top times brought down during the 2011-12 season. As a distance specialist, she coached Catia Weickgenant in the 500 Freestyle that led to her breaking the school record four times, setting the Sun Belt Conference record twice, the Mizzou Invite record, and the conference-meet record. Weickgenant also won a Sun Belt weekly award and took gold at the SBC Championships in the 500 Freestyle.

At the SBC Championships, Lowry was responsible for North Texas swimmers bringing home a gold, silver, and two bronze medals in the 500 and 1650 Freestyle.

Lowry helped the Mean Green dominate the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Championship in distance events, as North Texas swimmers registered victories in the 500 yard freestyle and 1650 yard freestyle, and took five of six podium spots on those events. Additonally, she helped Weickgenant set a school record in the 500-yard freestyle.

Lowry came to North Texas from Denver, where she was one of the most accomplished swimmers in the history of the Sun Belt Conference. A native of Hailey, Idaho, the four-time letterman qualified for the NCAA Championships as a senior in the 400 IM and the 1650 Freestyle. She set school records in the 1650 Freestyle (16:25.85), the 400 IM (4:12.99), the 1000 Freestyle (9:55.80) and as a member of the 800 Free Relay.

As a senior, she received team MVP and Sun Belt Conference Most Outstanding Female Swimmer honors. Over the course of her career, she received team awards for hardest worker and most improved swimmer and was a two-time captain.

Lowry earned a bachelor's degree in managament from the University of Denver in 2009, and earned her master's degree in higher education from North Texas in May 2012. She also brings coaching experience on the club level since 2007.
