DALLAS, Texas (12/30/12) - North Texas sophomore Kseniya
Bardabush defeated nationally ranked No. 76 Samantha Adams, of Texas Tech, 7-5; 6-3 to take first place at the Cotton Bowl Classic tennis tournament
Saturday afternoon.
"Playing in this tournament was a great experience for me," Bardabush said. "Winning a very competitive tournament gave me a lot of extra confidence for this upcoming season."
On Thursday, Bardabush
defeated No. 14 Sydney Riley, of Lakes Tennis Academy, in three sets 6-3; 5-7;
7-6. Bardabush moved on to defeat Zdena Hopkins 6-4; 6-0 in the round of 16.
Bardabush defeated former SMU
standout No. 4 Patricia Zerdan 6-1; 2-6;1-0 to advance to the semifinals on
Friday afternoon.
Bardabush faced future
teammate Alexis Thoma in Friday's semifinal match. Thoma defeated No. 1 Rachel
Janssen, 3-6; 6-3; 6-1, and No. 11 Adrien Jenkins, 6-1; 6-7; 1-0, on her way to
the semifinals. Bardabush defeated Thoma in straight sets 6-0; 6-2.
Teammate senior Valentina Starkova, who was seeded No. 2,
retired in the first round due to illness.
The Mean Green begins 2013 in Fort Meyers, Fla. for the
Florida Gulf Coast Invitational January 19-21.
